When I’m on a roll making lots of pictures of something specific (like cat after cat – or before that all of my owls), I start seeing what I’m drawing everywhere. Shadows, shapes, hubcaps, stones in the wall outside, scrapes on the wall going up the stairs to my studio – everywhere I look I see what I’m fixated on! It used to freak me out a bit, but I eventually settled into just being amused by the whole deal.
Sometimes, I even see my critters in completely unrelated work by other artists – and have to do something about it. This wonderful (and slightly disturbing) lithograph of a spider by Odilon Redon led to my own odd picture of what I suppose could possibly be an owl! Puzzling, I know, but that’s how things go when imagination has been focused. I like it that way.
Owl #266 (with thanks to Odilon Redon), 2013

Have the finest weekend – I will write again tomorrow –
