LOGAN FLOWERING 53

Flowering #53

India ink and surface alteration on paper – two sheets = 14″ x 21″

Here’s a morning bloom, to add some cheer to an otherwise dreary winter’s day. Perhaps where you are, the sun is shining. Hope so. It’s too early for me to have spring fever!

I must assemble almost 600 scans of my flower pictures (4 per) before I can start sifting them into virtual albums on my website’s digital reader. Since my version of Photoshop can’t merge scans automatically, it’s all on me. But I’m getting good at it doing it manually – and I’m enjoying seeing these pictures so intimately. Feels like I’m meeting ’em for the first time!

Look hard (or turn this upside down), and you’ll see this one was painted right over top of a failed cat! Here, I’ll flip it for you so you don’t have to:

See him in there now? GEEEEZ, doe it look better this way – – – AGAIN? WHY do so many of my pictures look as good or better upside down??!?@? Which way do you think it should go?

My dear friend and fine, fine artist, Wendy Setzer, emailed the left hand cutie, who really seems to be the perfect pal for one of my own. Here they are together on my desktop.

You should look at these larger – the belly on Wendy’s cat is incredible, as is that tomcat smile! click READ FULL ARTICLE immediately below!

I guess the pursuit of creativity is exasperating most of the time, right?

After all of my Photoshop fussing with this picture yesterday, trying out alternatives for a clever, fun finish, I decided upon the one that as it turns out, may be too much of a forced fit. Well phooey – it’s hard to tell. The end result is so far from what I had hoped for. Maybe it’s okay. Maybe okay is good enough, but I’m going to try it again, this time with a cat that’s not so fussy and out of character, laid down in swift, suggestive strokes like the rest of the picture.

I really want this little guy to look like the end of a tree branch at first, so it’s only recognized as what it is a few moments later. If I manage it, I’ll check in again later.

Good Morning All –

I’ve spent an hour or two setting up 40 new cats so they can be added to my website. For some reason, this particularly jumbley kitty really strikes my fancy this morning! He’s very goofy.

Did you know Great Horned Owls have no sense of smell, and that one of their favorite prey animals is skunks? Yuck. No wonder they look cranky.

Two of the ten I did very rapidly this morning. These are just quick point-n-shoot studio photos. In fact you can see that the top cat isn’t even dry yet.

My marks were coming out very weird and scratchy, partly because I didn’t mind it happening, and also because my eyes were closed at times. I do this to encourage moves and spacial relationships that are less well guided. Good excercise. Fun too!

After some lunch, I’m going to see if I can get some serious painting done!
