Road killed Long-earred Owl #5
India ink and surface alteration on paper. 18″ x 24″
Hey All –
I once encountered a road killed owl so sad and beautiful that I had to make some pictures. I meant to dash ’em off before she got gamey (I think she was a she, as she was pretty big, and girl owls are bigger than boy owls). Of course, the project got much more involved.
Fast forward a couple of years, and I’ve finally finished two last pictures. I don’t know why I let them hang around so long. One needed fussy painting to finish the little girl’s head. To complete the 2nd, I would have had to do the same thing all over again – and do you know what? I got it right the first time. So, I cut up my last owlie – – geez, that sounds ghoulish – – – I mean the drawing of course! I’ve saved two parts I really like and recycled the rest. Sometimes, walking away is the best way forward!
Hi-resolution images and detail views of the drawing above (and others of this sweet little girl) can now be found here: http://billloganart.com/drawings/recent-additions/
A gentle rain is falling. Leaves are bursting forth. Spring is the time to start new pictures – and I’m on it. Keep watching –
